Review: Anti Flag – “The Bright Lights of America”

8 05 2008

Now we have something that I was really looking forward to, the brand spanking new Anti-Flag Album “The Bright Lights of America”- to be honest the first time I listended to this I thought, what the fuck?!, well more like “who the fuck!” its not a punk album and the sound is different, but not necessary worse then their previous albums. It’s almost as if they have actually taken music lessons and actually concentrated on their lyrics and these are half decent songs, but not the typical Anti Flag style.

The album kicks off with “good and ready” and fucking bad ass chantey song, listen it to it once and your guaranteed to be singing along next time, but what the fuck is this? Am I imagining this? No, there really is a chorus of children singing, almost like Pink Floyds one more brick in the wall, its good, it works. The impression I get from this album is that Anti flag have actually gone out of their to produce something different, and it works.

I like it, it’s a different sound, but it works, I can see a lot of people calling it shit, but fuck it, it’s a genually good album, is it punk? No, is it typical anti flag? No, but its good, approach it with a fresh view of a band that seem to be reinventing themselves.

Sounds like they’ve taken music lessons? Now if only they could take lessons in ‘how not to look like pricks in a photograph’.
