I’m not going to make myself any friends with this blog I reckon, but I think its well worth writing.
A couple of things got me thinking – one was a comment on the PETA page by a hardcore organization of some kind, pointing out that is ironic that certain myspace adverts should appear on the PETA page, when the adverts in question are for companies who promote animal testing. The second thing that got me thinking was vegan shampoo in a shop I went in, which was retailing for the giveaway price of EIGHT QUID a bottle.
Now, these things got me thinking about when to draw the line. Opinions vary on everything – it is an infinite spectrum. Goes without saying. So, I want to make a, probably very uncool, suggestion - that we should praise people who make, what they believe to be, sacrifices or changes to their lifestyles for the common good, EVEN IF IT SEEMS LIKE THEY AREN’T DOING EVERYTHING.
I have a confession. I am a vegan for my diet, but I can’t afford all these expensive ‘vegan’ toiletries. I can’t afford not to shop in Primark, even though I know where the clothes come from – some Chinese sweatshop most of the time. I recycle only what the local government picks up. I don’t go on peace marches every weekend.
Everything is relative. Sometime I feel I could do more, but I do what I can. I drink Fair Trade coffee, because it is merely a few pence more than the normal crap. But compare this to the difference in price for a hoody in Primark and one from an expensive shop where there is a guarantee it is made by a hippy somewhere on the south coast. Everyone has their limits, and they are often forced to make compromizes in a society that money dictates.
Criticizing PETA for embracing Rupert Murdoch and adhering to the laws of myspace, and its coperate advertising is to miss the point. They are getting on with their job, spreading messages about animal cruelty, with the mediums they have available to them. And, this is going to reach a bigger audience than ‘punker than thou’ DIY outfits sometimes.
The same goes for music – just because Against Me! have released their new record on a major label does not mean they are sell outs, and that you should burn their old records. What does any of this achieve? Who is this proving anything to? Bands like this, organizations like PETA, are spreading the word on a scale others can’t.
I need to use a Tesco slogan now to get my point across on several levels. ‘Every little helps’. Stop being such liberal fascists. If people want to, they will find out the truth. Then we shouldn’t criticize people for seemingly not taking ideals are far as ourselves.
Doing this just puts people off joining in. Cos you end up sounding like an arrogant twat.

What’s this got to do with nazis?
i suppose not a lot directly, but you could argue its aboutliberals putting the idea and goal above the needs of the individual, which is an authoritarian point of view?
i think to sum it up it about people judging other people actions and compromises by their standards / eithics / morals without understanding different people have different standards / eithics / morals but can still work towards the same goal.
oo that sounds almost intellectual
Mr. MOD, it’s the practice of artistic licence!!
But anyway, I agree with the sentiment of the argument, primarily that people judge you based on their own opinions and morals. Some people take it to the point where their views are puritanical, bordering on fundamentalist…and for self professed Liberals thats a no no. They should just come out the closet and admit their millitants…ha, I jest.
My main point, is when your trying to achieve something that people should support you (unless it’s mass genocide, or ethnic cleansing…those type of things are bad) and understand that sometimes, you have to walk right, to go left.
Miss Siren xx
My brain takes a while to warm up on these winter days
check http://veganbrum.wordpress.com/, it lists various places to get vegan grub in brum
i agree wholeheartdly with with ya views dude, not everyone is in a position financially( and some people ethically) to be able to spend X amount on a product when you can buy 3 y’s for the same price.but is there a point where you can compromise to much?i also agree with miss siren, sometimes you have to walk right, to go left.unfortunate tho it is, its the way the world works. and to messenger of doom, the weather is freezin me brain to mate, roll on the spring!!!!!peace
A psychiatrist who has treated over 1,500 patients has come to the unshocking conclusion that liberalism is indeed a mental disorder.
Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.
“Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded,” says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, “The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness.” “Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave.”
…Rossiter says the kind of liberalism being displayed by the two major candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination can only be understood as a psychological disorder.
“A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do,” he says. “A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation’s citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do.”
Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:
creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.
“The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind,” he says. “When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious.”
So, Dr. Rossiter has concluded what conservatives have been saying for a long, long time — that liberalism is nothing more than politics practiced by someone with a mindset of a five-year-old, immature and emotional.
Does this mean that with some mental help, liberalism can disappear? Interesting, indeed…
Liberalism is very similar to the Nazis or fascism. They just don’t understand how people can believe differently then they do. They will go to great lengths to ostricize people with another point of view. The liberals in america have bought into the hype of “chage” and “Yes we can” etc. These phrases mean absolutely nothing. Change for the sake of change is not necessarily a good thing. I think there will be thought police if Obama is elected. People are caught up in the Obama movement. much like the youth in Germany who blindly followed Hitler. Look how that turned out. Liberals try to spin Obama’s associations with radicals because it just doesn’t fit their view of him. They are blinded by the Mesiah complex. Obama isn’t who you think he is. Wake up!
